Benny, a golden retriever on the Disneyland Resort security K9 team, has retired after six years of service.
Disney hosted a retirement party for Benny, who worked with handler Kevin around the resort entrance areas. The send-off included a small ceremony, treats, toys and a final staged detection exercise before Benny headed into retirement.
Disneyland Resort has 28 security dogs on the roster. The dogs wear name tags and ID badges like other cast members, and they train off-site before receiving certification for resort work.
Benny has worked at Disneyland since 2019. Kevin will begin training with another security dog, while Benny is going home with Kevin and settling into a routine with hikes, beach trips and more time with his red rubber ball.
