Walt Disney Imagineering released a behind-the-scenes video showing the autonomous Mobilator that carries WALL-E onstage in Remember: A Disney & Pixar Stage Show aboard Disney Adventure.
The computer-driven platform moves without a track or an onboard driver. LIDAR, cameras, and wheel odometry tell the system where it is onstage, while a built-in ramp gives other performers a way onto the moving set piece.
Remember stars WALL-E and EVE in a musical with characters from Coco, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and other Disney and Pixar films. WALL-E uses the Mobilator during the show rather than following a fixed path across the stage.
The three-minute video is part of Imagineering's Great Moments in Disney Live Entertainment series. It also shows the machinery beneath the Mobilator's finished stage shell.
