Disney's live-action Moana earned an estimated $18 million from Thursday previews and Friday screenings across 3,875 North American theaters. The result puts the remake on course for a $42 million to $46 million opening weekend.

The Saturday estimate is slightly higher than the $40 million to $45 million range reported Friday. Earlier tracking had pointed to a start above $60 million. Our Friday report followed that first downward revision.

Audience polling gave Moana an A- CinemaScore. Women gave it an A, while moviegoers under 18 gave it an A+.

Moana opened in U.S. theaters July 10. Catherine Laga'aia plays Moana, with Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Final weekend estimates are due Sunday.
