Selected episodes of Star Wars: Detours, the animated comedy that Lucasfilm shelved in 2013, will receive authorized public screenings at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
The plan was disclosed during the museum's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, according to reporting from the event by The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit. The episodes will screen after the museum opens in Los Angeles, but no dates, titles or number of episodes were announced.
Why Star Wars: Detours never aired
George Lucas developed Detours with Seth Green, Matt Senreich and director Todd Grimes as an all-ages comedy about everyday life in the Star Wars galaxy. Lucasfilm introduced the series at Star Wars Celebration VI in 2012 with exaggerated versions of Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Princess Leia and other familiar characters.
The company postponed the show in 2013 while shifting its animation plans toward the sequel trilogy and Star Wars: Episode VII. Lucasfilm described the move as a delay rather than a cancellation, but the completed material remained officially unavailable apart from trailers and convention clips.
The museum screenings are not a television or Disney+ release. They are the first announced plan to show a curated group of episodes to the public.
What to know about the Lucas Museum
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens Sept. 22 in Los Angeles' Exposition Park. Its inaugural program includes more than 30 installations and 1,200 objects, along with two theaters for film programs.
The opening exhibitions include Star Wars in Motion, which focuses on vehicles, props, costumes and design work from George Lucas' first six Star Wars films. The museum has not said whether the Detours screenings will begin during opening week or require separate tickets.
