Disney Live Action is developing a feature adaptation of Miye Lee's The Dallergut Dream Department Store, with Patrick Ness writing the screenplay, according to Deadline.
Disney Executive Vice President of Production Jessica Virtue is overseeing the project. A director, cast, production schedule and release date have not been announced.
What the novel is about
The Korean fantasy novel follows Penny, a new employee at a department store where sleeping customers buy dreams. The job turns dangerous when something begins affecting the store's sleeping clientele, pulling Penny into a mystery that could spread beyond the shop.
The English-language edition was published by Hanover Square Press in 2024. It is the first book in a duology. The novel has sold more than 2 million copies across more than 20 territories, according to Deadline.
Ness wrote the screenplay for the 2016 adaptation of his novel A Monster Calls and co-wrote Chaos Walking. Disney has not said how closely the film will follow Lee's book.
