National Treasure 3 is “finally real,” director Jon Turteltaub said during a live National Treasure Hunt podcast recording. He said he and Disney like the script and are trying to bring Nicolas Cage back.
Turteltaub Says Disney Likes the National Treasure 3 Script
Turteltaub discussed the project with Aubrey Paris and Emily Black during the podcast’s August 21 live recording in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported his comments after the event.
The film is in active development, but Turteltaub’s comments do not amount to a release announcement. No production start date, release date or plot details were announced with the comments.
Benjamin Gates Would Return for a Third Treasure Hunt
Cage played Benjamin Franklin Gates in the 2004 original and its 2007 sequel. Gates is a historian and treasure hunter who follows clues hidden in American history, which gives the series its puzzle-box structure.
The 2004 film is available to stream on Disney+. Turteltaub has not described the third film’s story or said when cameras could begin rolling.
