Disneyland Resort held a groundbreaking ceremony August 24 for the Eastern Gateway, a new parking structure and transportation hub planned for the east side of the resort.
The project will include about 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening and dedicated access from Disney Way. A pedestrian bridge will cross Harbor Boulevard and lead to a new Esplanade arrival experience, according to Disney Experiences.
Disneyland's Eastern Gateway Groundbreaking Took Place at the Former Manchester Lot
BlogMickey's on-site report records that Disneyland President Jill Estorino attended the ceremony with construction and community partners. Estorino described the groundbreaking as “an exciting step forward” for Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim.
The garage will rise on part of the former Manchester cast member parking lot. Disney has not announced a completion date. The larger arrival work is planned as a multi-year construction effort.
The New Garage Will Connect to Disneyland's Esplanade by Bridge
The Harbor Boulevard bridge is planned to provide public access between the eastside hub and the Esplanade shared by Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. The project is also part of the infrastructure planned for future DisneylandForward projects.
