Jim Cummings says he will not reprise Darkwing Duck in Disney's long-developing revival of the animated series. In the interview reported by TheWrap, Cummings said the project is hiring new voices for Darkwing and Launchpad McQuack.
Jim Cummings says the revival has been recast
Cummings told Collider that he recorded a pilot several years ago while the project was being tested. He said the revival is moving ahead with another performer as Darkwing and another performer in Terry McGovern's former role as Launchpad.
The comments mark a change from Cummings' earlier public remarks about the project. In March, he had said he was still attached. The current report does not include a new cast announcement, release date, or production schedule.
The original Darkwing Duck series
D23's reference entry says the animated series premiered on The Disney Channel on April 6, 1991, before airing on ABC and in syndication. The show ran for 91 episodes, with Cummings voicing Darkwing and Terry McGovern voicing Launchpad.
The original series remains available on Disney+. The current reporting concerns the proposed revival and does not establish a premiere date, a full replacement cast, or a production schedule.
