Prime Video has canceled Spider-Noir after one season. Nicolas Cage’s live-action Marvel series will not return for a second season, TheWrap reported on September 4.
The cancellation ends this version of Ben Reilly’s story a little more than three months after its May debut. TheWrap independently learned that Amazon opted against renewing the series; its report does not identify a reason for the decision.
A Marvel Detective in 1930s New York
Spider-Noir draws on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir comics, which place a version of the web-slinging hero in a period crime setting. In the television adaptation, Cage plays Ben Reilly, a private investigator drawn back toward his former life as the superhero known as The Spider after a personal tragedy.
Sony Pictures Television produced the series for MGM+ and Prime Video. Lamorne Morris plays journalist Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li plays nightclub performer Cat Hardy and Karen Rodriguez plays Reilly’s secretary, Janet.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as co-showrunners, developing the series with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. The first season remains available on Prime Video in both black-and-white and color.
