A live-action Mary Poppins television project is still at pitch stage, Deadline reports.
Producer Tom Winchester is developing and producing the adaptation for Pure Fiction Television after optioning the rights from the P. L. Travers estate.
Conversations with Disney are at a very early stage, and no agreement has been reached. Deadline reports that the project does not need Disney’s approval from a rights standpoint, though the producers hope the studio will join because of its history with Mary Poppins.
Winchester is approaching potential showrunners. Pure Fiction and Disney declined to comment.
