The ESPN and Disney Jr. youth sports program has awarded more than 2,400 registration grants to families across the United States.

The grants have helped children ages 3 to 7 participate in 26 sports. Nearly half of the families said it was their child’s first time playing a sport.

The initiative, ESPN’s Take Back Sports powered by Disney Jr. Let’s Play!, works with Every Kid Sports to help cover registration fees. The program is now in its second year.

ESPN and Disney Jr. also held free clinics in Oakland, Chicago, Fresno and Fontana. Hundreds of children and families attended the clinics, which introduced participants to sports including flag football, baseball, soccer and gymnastics.
