The first lettered preview pages from Maximum X-Men #1 arrived October 23, ahead of the issue’s December 2 release.

The opening page drops Storm and Wolverine into “The Avenger Situation,” the first arc of the new series. A Negative Zone invasion threatens the X-Men while the Avengers are out of action.

Christopher Yost writes the series, with art by Tony S. Daniel. In Marvel’s accompanying interview, Yost said the team draws on the classic Chris Claremont and Jim Lee era, while mixing longtime X-Men with Firestar and Justice.

Daniel said Storm’s lightning and windswept look have been especially fun to draw. He also highlighted Betsy Braddock’s butterfly effects, sword and shield.
